Robert "Rocky" Rachal
Hello, my name is Rocky Rachal. Okay, it’s really Robert Rachal, but for the past 30 or so years I’ve gone by “Rocky.” How I came to have that nickname is a longer story than I need to go into here. For anyone who wants to hear that story, I’ll be glad to share it with you!
I’ve been ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church for 25 years. I come from Louisiana. I attended Louisiana State University where I graduated in 1986. Shortly after graduation, I discerned a call to the ordained ministry within the Episcopal Church.
In 1988, I began my studies at Seabury-Westem Theological Seminary, which is located in Evanston, Illinois. While at Seabury-Western, I met the woman who was to become my wife. We were in the same entering class. Two years later, Paula and I were married in the Seabury Chapel. After graduating in May of 1991, I returned to Louisiana where I spent the next two years in a variety of parochial and extra-parochial ministries.
In 1993, I received a call from Calvary Episcopal Church to be the Associate for Campus Ministry. Calvary is located in Columbia, Missouri where the University of Missouri s campus is located. In 1997, I left Calvary Church to accept a similar position at Trinity Episcopal Church in Huntington, West Virginia. In 1997, Paula and I also adopted our son, Tyler.
In 2000, my family and I moved to North Carolina when my wife was called to be the assistant priest at All Saints Episcopal Church in Greensboro. I have served as the priest for the Church of the Messiah since 2002.
